Science Fantasy

Over 20 years ago in the year 1964, THE MAN took the control of The Tower of Eerth.
With a little help from their friends, Kidd and Popp took back The Tower and drove THE MAN to whence they came... but they did not stayed droven... driven? Yeah, I'll go with that. They did not stay driven out. They returned. They came back a couple times, but they never really did much and just got their butts handed to them.
Now, in the year 1989, a new threat has emerged from the depths of space that not only threatens Eerth, but the entire universe.
THE ORDER.
Even THE MAN seems to fear them, who are they? What do they want? Good thing Eerth has John, a minimum wage paper pusher to save them. Can he save them? Can THE ORDER be stopped?
Find out, in the next exciting episode of AS THE TOWERS FALL Z.

Character Bios: From left to right.
Renoe: Defender of the weak, destroyer of evil. She patrols the mean isles of Good-market picking up any liter that may be unfortunate enough to cross paths with her.
John: Renoe's younger brother. He files papers, sometimes he signs them.
Metil: Some say she's a thief, others say she's a bandit... thought I don't know the difference between the two, if there is one.
Rebecca: A witch in training, born into wealth. She only wishes to bend time and space to her will, nothing big.
Soriyu: A traveler from a far off land, very far off.
Water: Born in the wasteland and hardened in the fires of the post-apocalypse.
Azul: He's not sure where, or when she was born. She thinks she may be a vampire, but that's not even for certain. He goes by Azul, as his original name is lost to time.

So far I can say the story isn't bad, there is a lot of potancial in it. The character design is very good as I can tell from the posts. A big plus for me are the self made graphiks, I like to see new stuff. All in all it looks good. I'm downloading the demo and test the rest. ;)
So I played for a hour this game and can say, great work. The only two thing I can complain so far, is that Hayashibiara has a to powerfull weapon she can equip from the beginning on 'cause she kill every enemy with a single hit. Second, that there a to less enemytypes I counted 3 or 4. The costum graphiks are pretty cool. The music I really enjoyed to listen. The game is a really big fun, not as unbelievable hard as a MLP RPG I played. The Storyline and whriting is also good. Keep on working on this, this is going to be a really great game. :)

The Gunthar... I really don't know what happened there. I had somebody else play it, and they also had the Gunthar, even though I have 3 different events that should remove it. Every play test I've done has the Gunthar taken away... ~_~
I think I'm just going to remove it from the game completely, as you never get to open the inventory to see it anyway, making it kinda pointless.

Second, that there a to less enemytypes I counted 3 or 4.
Yeah, that's my next goal. I'm planning each world (3 planned) to have at least 7-8 unique enemy types. I have more planned, but the 7-8 will appear only in their world, with other "filler" enemies fighting along side them.

The costum graphiks are pretty cool. The music I really enjoyed to listen. The game is a really big fun, not as unbelievable hard as a MLP RPG I played. The Storyline and whriting is also good. Keep on working on this, this is going to be a really great game. :)

UPDATE THING: I'm going to switch over to parallax mapping. I find this will not only allow me more freedom in my map creation, but also help improve the look of the game.

It's funny because I'm terrible at scratch sprites. I can only make decent looking ones when I have something to go off of, even if I end up changing it quite a bit. :P

I think the graphics are a really important thing and your chars look really great. :3
But till you are not 100% satisfied, you should work on them, I am doing the same on my "Snowdrop's Journey" RPG at the moment. ;)
But after all I hope to release the second demo before christmas. :)

Though I'm not good at this, I still get sucked into messing with my sprites. I'll go to make a small edit that popped into my head, get side tracked, and be done 2 hours later.

I like where this one is going, it's still in development obviously. Kinda, um... I like the over sized head thing, but I don't know how to draw anything necks. It makes it look like they don't have necks, which I don't like.

(Side note, Rebecca's head looks smaller because of all her hair. SO MUCH HAIR.)

They have the short hair. I haven't figured out how to draw chins or cheeks. The females all have their cheeks mostly covered, and a lot of their necks too.

I restarted the project because I wasn't at all happy with where it was going. I kept all the graphics and stuff (And the dash city map), but started a new project. New world map, new cities and what not.

I'm going to upload a new demo soon.
Even if just 2 peoples tried it out that would help a lot. I've always had trouble with enemy difficulty balancing so testers would be much very appreciated.

Put the new demo up.
After the fight with the tarbeast (the snake monster) the game will freeze on a black screen... didn't mean for that to happen but there's nothing past that so, um... that's the end of the demo.

I have the full version of FL Studio and have been making music for almost 6 years.
When I have more time, I will download the game and play it to get a feel for the atmosphere.

I was thinking about it a little. I guess like the second but not characters.
The introduction is a meteor hitting the Eerth. I was planning a few more little scenes like this, but wasn't sure the best way to animate these. I went with pictures, a lot of pictures.
It would be nice to find some kind of free animation software but I'm sure you either get free or good. You ain't getting both.

Well I'm off for tonight. I'll answer any questions you may have tomorrow.

(Mapping)
I'll post updates here once in a while so you know what's up.
I was doing parallax mapping. I came to realize that making a proper tileset would be far easier and allow for faster map creation in the future. It would also allow others to help with mapping. :X
I'm about 30% done with the city tileset. When I am finished I'll hand them over to you so you can do some mapping.
Right now I'm converting my parallax mapped maps over to tileset maps as well. As I do this I'm seeing what things from the old maps I should port over to the tileset.

(Events)
I'm been thinking of a taxi service event. Because of this game taking place in a mostly modern setting, it would make sense for the fast travel to be something like a taxi.
I was thinking of a common event that can be called from certain locations, and maybe even anywhere with the use of a cell phone.
It would only allow you to travel to places you've been, and that's the annoying part really. ;-;
I was wondering if you knew of a way to do it without a conditional branch charlie foxtrot.

I think tilesets definitely speed up the process. ;__; Even if you have to custom make them, it's so much easier to re-use everything.

For the taxi event, there may be a "fast travel" script you can use. ;o I know I've seen something like that before. :-)

Let me play around with the idea for a bit in VXA and I'll get back to you on this. I'm thinking it's probably going to need switches for each city...

Edit: Played around a bit, and came to the conclusion that the conditional branch might be the most simple, however it can be done with an event page to coincide with which areas you have unlocked using switches to activate those specific pages within the taxi event. If the game is on rails so-to-speak and you unlock each city in a predetermined way then there's fewer pages, otherwise you'll need switches and pages for every combination of unlocked city. That's a lot to cram in one event, but still possible.
With a conditional branch you can probably just do switch checks through a script to return whether or not a switch is on or off. Then it'd be one page, no hassle.

Should just be a simple call to return a 1 or a 0 from each towns designated switch.

Edit: I made a simple event to call a taxi, which promptly drives up, and upon given a choice drives away, with or without you.
