History
Spoiler for:
The Time is 270 S.E (Sorrow's End) - The Dawn of God's Sorrow, it is called, was a week of nonstop rain across the Earth. The downpour tormented the world, flooding nearly half of the its landmasses and killing 100s of millions of people in its wake. For 270 years now, humans have been rebuilding its home, limited resources has made it a long process, but most of the Earth (that isn't underwater) has been restored to its original status. From the sorrow though, brought mysterious beings named Witches. They resemble humans in every way, besides from the distinct horns and red eyes that all Witches have. Humans began to fear and disrespect the new creatures, blaming them for the Sorrow, the bond between Human and Witch seemed that it would never hold.

Story
Rolan Accades (ah-kades) is a merchant's apprentice in the small lumber village, Havel. Rolan is sent to deliver a package to a shopkeeper in Cobalt, a steel working city. Upon arriving, Rolan finds a young Witch, one without a home. Torn between humanity's distrust of the Witches and his own morality, Rolan is quickly taken by the Witch's story and the mysteries it brings.

Characters
(http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/7903/39955393.png) (http://img32.imageshack.us/i/39955393.png/)Rolan Accades: The protagonist of the story, he uses shortswords in battle, striking swift yet deadly. He isn't the greatest fighter, as he is new to the traveling scene, he has the capability of dual wielding weapons and uses both quite well.

She tends to get into trouble a lot with the humans town as she has no where to live on top of being a Witch.
(http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/6703/61546646.png) (http://img822.imageshack.us/i/61546646.png/)Chester Rhodes: A young magician who lives with his famous magician parents and his butler Tenpenny in the mansion of a small village. He loves to go on adventures to acquire artifacts. Chester's spells are very powerful and his presence is a nearly essential in battle. Good to see your back here. I might have to make a comeback too.
I love your story. It pleases me by following the cliché-abiding twister rule. The logo and title screen look very nice as well. But make sure you don't plan for an epic 24 hour-long game. Those never turn out well unless professionally executed.
I'd be glad to do anything I can to help this project. If you need anything I can do, just let me know.

I don't want the game to be TOO long, but I've already written the story in its entirety, however long that turns out to be, I'll just have to live with it. For the time being though, I'm writing a ton of stuff rather than quickly hopping onto the creation, that way I'd be able to finish the game a lot quicker.

Good. Take care of things in their blocks. Don't try to take everything on at the same time.

Countering my previous post of me writing the story in its entirety, I've been doing a lot of rewriting, story-wise. I've changed the 'Story' section of the OP as well, as you can see, I removed the sister dying stuff, it seemed like overkill simply meant to drag out the story by adding more to learn, still you can look forward (or not) to a demo in 2 weeks or less.

The heat wave going around screws with my brain, so I can't concentrate too well. (lol, an interesting excuse) But I've finally begun to work a bit harder on the game. I added 4 new screenshots - you'll notice that the first screenshot shows the main character wearing different clothes than in the others, I didn't want to redo the picture as it was originally supposed to show the environment anyway, so I will not. I'm not going for a graphical phenomenon here though, but I have a story worth telling and I shall do so.

The demo is still set for release next week.

EDIT: (June 11th)

The demo's progress is going great, (weather is getting cooler) I've gotten around 40 or so minutes of gameplay already done, and I don't want to stop there with the demo, I'm going to be adding a bit more. I'm hoping to have the game out Monday, possibly Sunday.
I've also added 4 more screenshots showing off a city in the game (The ones at nighttime). I've redone the main village (Havel) by adding a bit more details, a quick sidequest and a bit of gathering.

EDIT: (June 11th - pt.2)

Well then, I've been no-lifing this game like no other. I have the demo complete and I'll be uploading it tomorrow. If anyone plays this, it'd be nice to get a bit of feedback. I'm going to bump the page tomorrow with the download link as well as updating the OP.

The demo is here:

Just something I want to throw out there; I'm going to be redoing the menu sounds and graphics, I'm sort of experimenting with them. So bare with me.

I've found a pretty bad problem that will be had in the game. It'll happen at the very end of the demo though, when you talk with your Grandma with Lin in your party (which is the end of the demo) - so, I'm just letting you all know that once you get this error that will be fixed when the next demo comes around, you have completed the demo and I thank you very much :)

I really look forward to playing it.

Been doing a bit of database work for a while, finally got back into the mapping aspect. I plan on having a second demo eventually, not too soon though. But here's a screenshot of a town I've been working on called Andale (yeah, I got the name from Fallout, but it isn't creepy).

Picture of Andale (Before Completion)
Spoiler for:
(http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/4392/20487760.jpg) (http://img600.imageshack.us/i/20487760.jpg/)

EDIT (Few hours later):
I just finished the town, including the interiors to the buildings, I've added the people and finished the park. I also added a bit more to the field area: adding monsters, 2 quests and a few more of those "Casai Flower" bushes in the field to pick up, except now they have a use as the enemies in this field will poison you. I added about 20 or so armors and weapons along with a few more skills. The game is going swimmingly, and for that I'm very happy.

Yet another update:
I've been working on the next dungeon quite a bit, and spent a good chunk of time working on a pretty cutscene for the players to enjoy as well.

Demo Number Two is set for release in about a week or so (I've got a lot of free time), In the demo you'll gain the third party member, complete 2 dungeons, find a new town to explore. I've added about 40 new armors and weapons for the demo (most of which are not found in vendors) and redid a few things from the first demo. Stick around for more info on Witchtooth.
Also, here's a video of the first 10 minutes of the game:

EDIT (Hours later):
Added 2 new screenshots

The Second Demo is now complete and UP, if you play it, please give some feedback  ;D -
-The demo spans a good 3-4 hours if you were to do everything, you'll run 2 new dungeons, get a new party member and kill a secret boss ((if you find it) Shouldn't be too hard)

Have fun.

I had fun playing! Mostly after I started exploiting glitches, but hey!

[EDIT]: I think I finally ran out of things to do, except find that secret battle, perhaps? Once Rolan gets geared up, everything basically does no damage to him. However, so far the game has been enjoyable! I spent some time whacking at birds outside of town to level up. Keep it up!

[EDIT II]: Oop! I missed a lot, it seems! I only progressed further after meandering over to one of the beds.
Big problem when I change areas from the Northern Plains. I changed areas, the rain slows to a stop and then suddenly the character moves downward and I cannot get back control.

As I was playing through the game I jotted down some bugs and silly notes along the way, done in the order in which I came across them :

<General>
- Script 'Party Leader Death' line 33 : SystemStackError occurred; Stack Level too Deep.
-- This happens after restarting the game (F12). Could be conflicting scripts, but I think this error is typically because the script is missing 'unless $@' on aliases.
- Silver Axe help text incorrect.

<Havel>
[Bug(s)]
- Grandma's House : Fireplace tiles set to [ * ] and hover over NPCs and player.
- Grandma's House : Box tiles near door set to [ * ] and hover over NPCs and player.
- Grandma's House : I can save Sofie without leaving town and going into the forest? If I go straight to Grandma's House after starting the game and go upstairs, Sofie is back and talking about something that I haven't gotten to as of yet.
- Grandma's House : Rolan replies to Grandma in the same way even after retrieving Sofie.
- Entering the straw hut near the upper section of the town goes no where.
- After speaking with Mr. Hetherton and exiting to speak with an excited Janie, the town music dies out and doesn't return unless you enter and exit a building.

[Player Notes]
- Dan gives me GP and EXP. All I want is more HP potions.
- Need option to tell Wallace to build that armor shop, pronto.

<Forest>
[Bug(s)]
- Upper-most light post tile set to [ x ]; cannot pass behind.

[Player Notes]
- Un-openable large box trolling me.
- Returned to see if Edna would sell me some HP potions. Couldn't find her or HP potions. Checked large box; wasn't in there.

<Cobalt>
[Bug(s)]
- Can re-enter alley to re-fight thugs even after defeating them. Exploited like no tomorrow. The sewers would have stood little chance against my level 10 Rolan dual-wielding comets.
- Man who says that he is shutting down his tent shop for the night has not returned in the morning?

[Player Notes]
- Cobalt has armor, weapon and item shops that have HP potions; instant favorite city.
- Apple Juice not sold in bar.
- Mass production of Sweetrolls required.
- Came back the next day and the lady had not baked me another Sweetroll. The nerve of some strangers.

<Outside of Andale>
[Bug(s)]
- Entered a fight and the game shut down from a missing battle graphic.
-- [EDIT] : Fought back to where I was before. 'Graphics/BattleBacks/Grasshill' was the file that is missing. I substituted in another graphic and I'm continuing on.

<Undead Encounter>
[Player Notes]
- Poor guy. Adrenaline Rush plus normal, non-critical dual-wield for 500.

<Tunnel>
[Player Notes]
- Troll  D:
-- Successfully trolled the troll!
-- Suddenly Lin is awesome-sauce. Attack damage and animation changed for the better!

<Northern Plains>
[Bug(s)]
- Not possible to sprint?
- Changed areas, the rain slows to a stop and then suddenly the character moves downward and I cannot get back control. Cannot proceed.

@Exhydra

Thanks for the comment, that was certainly entertaining, but I have a bit to work on it seems. I tried to go for a game where you didn't have to grind much to progress, but I suppose I should work on the difficulty a bit for those that do and find some kind of good balance. Those little graphical things and the speaking parts will be fixed right now. I'll also be changing vendor prices, mainly because you could easily make Rolan super OP. I'll make sure to have the man in Cobalt come back and sell his goods in the morning. The bar man will not sell you apple juice XD, and the old woman has no more sweetrolls for you. I deleted some event that happened in the raining Northern Plains section which explained why you wouldn't want to run, but I removed that but didn't removed the Disabled Dashing, I'll do that now. But when the rain goes away, that is meant to happen, a man in Baveraine actually speaks about that; but, I do not know why you're unable to move, I'll check on it. The script stuff will be fixed as well, so there.

Find the secret boss, you'll probably destroy it though at this point, it's around the Northern Plains Port, just run around the map you'll bump into it.

Thanks again for the feedback and I'm glad you liked it.

EDIT: I found the error where you cannot progress past the Northern Plains, it's an autorun event I forgot to put a switch on. Removing the demo for now, it will be back in around 30 minutes.

EDIT: 3 minutes

SUPEREDIT: Demo is fixed and back up
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X8HMBX17

For now, after getting Lin, don't go back into the Alley. The repeat event was fixed, but not in this demo because I didn't want to take too much time to reupload.

Thanks for the comment, that was certainly entertaining, but I have a bit to work on it seems.

The bigger your game gets, the more likely it is that bugs will pop up without you noticing. You'll get things worked out, I'm sure! I would highly suggest Jet's Integrity Checker script as it checks for missing files. Run it once before you release a demo to make sure you've got everything in place.

I tried to go for a game where you didn't have to grind much to progress, but I suppose I should work on the difficulty a bit for those that do and find some kind of good balance.  . . .  I'll also be changing vendor prices, mainly because you could easily make Rolan super OP.

Well, the prices were already quite high, I just grinded until I had enough money to get the best. That took a lot of my time to do so. I'm of the mindset that I should grind until the local monsters aren't a challenge and I have the best weapons and armor.

The bar man will not sell you apple juice XD, and the old woman has no more sweetrolls for you.

But, but ... the apple juice!

Find the secret boss, you'll probably destroy it though at this point, it's around the Northern Plains Port, just run around the map you'll bump into it.

Phew, that was a tough fight. Lin got KO-ed once and Rolan was just a hit away from going down as well. I ate up nearly all of my HP potions too, but me and Lin finally took down the Lesser Hydra.

<Baveraine>
[Player Notes]
- "Bennett isn't here." : No-! I could use a cleric about now ... getting Wolf Teeth for HP potions is slow!
- Yay, Chester. A little weak compared to us Hydra Slayers, but we'll allow him to join.

<Underground Temple>
[Player Notes]
- Difficult to distinguish the ground from the walls at times since they seem to use the same tile.
- The current end boss didn't even get one attack off with Chester using the stunning spell.

Looks good, keep going and work out the kinks! I would suggest that instead of raising prices, just expand on what you have. Even when I stopped to grind for experience and gold, the areas seemed extremely tiny. I spent time to get the best gear and then I meandered over to the next town and found that everything I had was obsolete. If you expand what's in each area, and give the player more play time there, it shouldn't be an issue. Though the monsters later on would need to be a little tougher, they rarely hit Rolan for anything over 1 damage.

I'm glad you took the time to finish it up. I bet it was pretty hard to kill the Hydra since you didn't have Chester. I still have to do something about that Earth Swipe spell and the Ice Cage, they seem to last longer than they should and can be very spammable; I'll probably increase the mana cost. And the enemies are going to get a lot harder, and once you get the cleric (whose name isn't Bennett :) ) it'll get even harder since you'll be graced by the powers of a healer.

The demo has been updated (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=P5XBMCHP)

A bunch of bugs have been eradicated, and there has been a few changes in balancing combat and item prices.
I've decided not to make a third demo, I'm going to just finish up the game and put it out there, (of course after testers try it)
the game is still going well and should be out in before September is what I'm guessing.

<General>
- [minor] Within battle the 'unable to escape' message uses 'it' instead of 'he' or 'they'.

<Havel>
- Grandma's House [minor] : No music after rescuing Sophie.

<Cobalt>
- [minor] Tense music still playing within the alley, although everything else is fine.

<Cindy's House.
- Boxes near the entrance to Cindy's Room are now impassible and cause the cut scene to halt, as the players cannot go through them.

I was thinking that I wouldn't put out a third demo, but I suppose I will. It'll take about 5-6 hours to get through it in its entirety, but I've added a bunch of new stuff in. (If you've played the other demos, you still can't enter the sewer in Cobalt, but no worries) -- First off I've added another secret boss, but it isn't secret in that you will have to look in an unlikely place to find it, townsfolk will speak about it, it's up to you to summon the creature. It will not drop exactly the most exciting items though, but when it is slain, the item you receive can be turned into one of the strongest weapons in the game thus far (Usable for Lin and Rolan, so this is your chance to turn Lin into a melee dps! (if you want..))

The demo should most likely be complete during the next week.

More secret items! More secret skills! Secrets!

At any rate, I'll be ready to test the new beta when it arrives.

Okay, I finally got around to playing this, as I said I would ages ago. Sorry about that.
The first thing I notice is the music. Good. Nice. I like it.
The second thing I notice is the resemblance to Grace of Vil. But that's mainly the tileset (and the whole sister missing thing), and otherwise it's quite original.
The third thing I notice is the first time I've seen one of my own scripts in a game. Thank you!
I'll give you more once I play further in. I'm loving it so far.
And not to pull the plug on it, but I personally think the battle system would look better if you used the Enemy Stats script. It provides more information to the player and provides for more tactical battling. But who am I to say, it's your game!
EDIT: The map of the attached screenshot made my day.

Thanks, luiishu.

And I'm glad you like it, Pacman. The whole sister dilemma went through many changes during my planning, but then I decided to stop getting so worked up about it and I pretty much made the quest from the top of my head to continue with the game. I'll look at this Enemy Stats script, it may be useful. Thanks for trying the game out.

And the Final Demo has been complete. This demo has another secret boss, and will grant the player with its fourth party member, a cleric! The demo in its entirety will span a good 6 hours (5:37:19 (playtime) for me) - The second secret boss will be a tough one though, be well supplied :)
Please give any type of feedback that you can, it'd be much appreciated.

Running through the demonstration now, starting from scratch. Everything seems good so far, only one minor error so far.

EDIT: Finished the demo, although I need to go back and find the secret monster fight. I somehow blasted past that point.

1. I'll fix that. :)
2. You will not be able to speak with her.
3. I was going to fix that the moment I realizes it, which was like a week before the demo release, I don't know why I forgot to fix it. But still, you can't enter at this point anyway since that is the Fortune Teller's house and even she's locked out. (You will be able to find the key - but not in the demo)

I think it's much better for you to get Talis before finding the Arkouda anyway because you will almost surely be killed (Unless you have tons of potions). If you need help finding it, just ask me.

EDIT: (Didn't see the need of making another post)
> If not noticeable by now (and I've just now added this detail to the Features of the OP) the characters in the game can be built in various ways. Chester at this time seems like he'll be the only character with one sort of build direction. Rolan can be a quick damage rogue type character or be built heavily on defense, Lin can also be turned into a DPS but could much easier be a caster/debuffer, The cleric you will recruit can be a really powerful healer by wearing cloth (magelike) armor, or (my preference) he can be a Paladin type character where I put him in heavy armor putting defense over spirit.

XD I like how you gave me a link to my own game. I've been thinking of many ways to remap that entire area, not just the bridge, which annoyed me very much when I was recording. Thanks for the helpful advice though; If I decide to make any graphical changes to specific areas I'll be sure to let everyone know.

And I haven't deleted GoV.

Well it seems I had been getting some decent views (by my standards) on youtube for this game. Luckily it caught the eye of a kind fellow that owns a video game news site called "New Game" or "Startanewgame" - It's a pretty cool site, although the views could be better, it looks quite well done. To me, even the smallest interest in the game really helps me out production-wise. So, if you'd like to check out the article of my game, here's a healthy link:

I haven't updated for quite a while, so here goes.

     Progress on the game has been quite slow, mainly because school just started which means that and football takes up a lot of my time. I've been refining some nuisances I found in the early game along with a ton of database adjustments; mainly in the areas regarding party member's hp, attack, def, etc. along with adding some new items and changing store prices. The actual game length doesn't go beyond around 30 minutes past the length of the demo at this point, but I added a secret weapon though, because i like secrets.
     I've already said so, but there will indeed be no more demos of the game as I believe I've reached that point that they will not be necessary. I do however would like to know who'd be willing to play the game in its entirety before It is officially released, I have a few others lined up for this, but the more the merrier. I'll have to run through it once more as well of course.
     I think that's about it... oh and League of Legends has been taking a lot of my time too, but that's kinda my fault.

A small update:

The game is now (approximately) 70% of the way complete. I'm reaching for a 15 hour length, and I've added tons of content to the game. I made more unique items to be dropped by enemies, another Secret Boss and some quests here and there. If you've yet to try out the demo, please don't hesitate to give it a whirl.

I'm still looking for Volunteers who'll play through the game in its entirety before launch just to make sure everything is all fine and dandy.

I've played the demo and I've done the cabin sidequest in Andale. I've also given Lin that place to live.
I have noticed three mistakes out of the whole hour or so I played it for.

-"I usually try to stay hidden most of the day." "The" cuts off at the end.
-"Are you to... Together?" Two, not 'To'.
-"Bring this girl to Andale" should be Take.
-"I don't need to go on a boat." 'Go' cuts off.

An Average Sized Update:

Well, as of Two Days ago, my school's football season has come to an end, freeing up a good 3-4 hours for me to spend on Witchtooth. I've been doing a lot of work on the Experience, making enemies give more and making the amount needed a bit less. Ideally, you should be about done with the game around level 30, which is where you'll recieve most of your best abilities, so naturally I decided to make that come a bit quicker seeing as I'd like the game to span around 15 hours. I've created a whole new continent for the game, which is accessible through riding on the boats that will be usable later in the game. I've been doing a lot of work on the Ultimate Weapons as well, it's going to be a lot of fun trying to acquire them.

I've been creating more weapons and armors so that the player's equipment doesn't become stale quickly. Enemies drop more unique equipment and drop consumable items at a higher percentage. All enemies, excluding those of the opening areas (mainly before meeting Lin), have been beefed up, they deal more damage and have more HP, I felt that to be necessary. The characters' and equipment stats have been edited greatly, since I found many ways to exploit the system by creating unique builds. A good example would be making a godly Talis, with super high spirit and defense; my remedy to this was making his base Spirit a bit lower and increasing how much Heavy Armor decreased his spirit.

A Patch Note of Sorts:
Spoiler for:
Characters - Rolan has been weakened, as his damage output while dual wielding can be pretty crazy, especially at the earlier stages of the game.
Lin's Spirit has been increased and the power of her primary spell, "Dim" has become stronger. Her Seals have all be renamed and the states they apply have had their durations shortened by 1 turn. Her defense has been raised along with her max HP.
Talis has less Spirit (mentioned already) but his Heals replenish more of an ally's HP.
Items/Equipment - Many Equipment prices have been raised. Strength of most weapons have been increased, with prices also increased. Less Casai Flowers found in the World, so you're gonna have to make use of the ones sold in stores. The Merchant in New Baveria no longer sells "Tesla Gems," instead she'll sell "Aqua Gems" for the same price (200G). Added "Wolf Claws" to the drops for the Wolves in the Havel Forest, they are weapons usable by Rolan. "Scalemail" a new piece of armor dropped by Dire Fish, also only usable by Rolan. Raging Plants now drop "Chilling Pike", a dagger usable only by Lin.
Mapping - Havel Bridge has become accessible by more than one person, limiting frustration for everyone who waits for slow NPCs to get the &@#! out of the way.

Still, I'm looking for people who'd like to test the game in its entirety (As in, from start to finish) before its official launch to help with bug spotting and error eradication so that its super tidy when it's ready to be revealed.

Post by: skaraflame on October 23, 2011, 05:43:32 PM
Nice updates! Should make everything more fun. I found the game a bit easy except for the wolves. The wolves were the only challenging bit for me. Now I just keep beating up the birds and upgrading my armour :D

What do I do once you've killed the dead guy in his house though? I've also done the whole Lin's room in Andale thing.
Title: Re: Witchtooth {VX} [DEMO V.3]
Post by: hiromu656 on October 23, 2011, 11:34:51 PM
After killing the dead guy, go back to the woman who gave you the quest. Unless you're asking how to progress the main story, then just go to sleep in the beds in Cindy's house.

I've heard that same thing from others as well, the wolves in the opening are tough, but everything else is weak. I'm going to make them a bit weaker (or maybe just remove their skill), the other monsters are already being beefed up for the full game.

Good.

EDIT:

Didn't want to double post; But this is an Update-

>Been thinking for a long time about this and I've finally decided to go along with my decision. In order to make the choices for characters (as in making custom builds for characters), I've made Rolan able to either dual wield or use a shield. Along with this I've made Lin able to equip all helmet items that Rolan can and the ones that Chester can. I'm not sure if this has already been fixed in the demo, but Talis can equip all types of armor that Chester can, so if you want to make a super powerful, yet squishy healer, go ahead.

UPDATE:

> At this point I'm almost certain that the game will be complete (not released) before the end of November. Preferably before I buy Skyrim. Since I've been doing a fully main quest playthrough as I test the game, I have 12 hours currently; I was trying to get to 15 hours, but i'm going to finish it out however long it becomes. Once I'm done with the story though, the side content will be on my agenda. Already I've been adding more drops to enemies, allowing more customization, new shops and side quests, secret bosses and I've completed all of the Ultimate Weapons for each of the (4) classes.

Initially when I started making this game I wanted there to be a crafting system, allowing you to upgrade and create items, such as potions and what not, and I also wanted cooking to be in the game. At this point I'm not sure if I'll be adding this into the game, but I think they'd be great time consumers for those who don't want to be following the story for too long. The side content is sure to add at least 5 more hours onto the game, I want there to be plenty to do along the way towards the endgame.

I'm going to be making a bunch of more videos for the game instead of screenshots, because I'd much rather do it that way. The videos will mainly be sneak peaks of new areas, or showing off gameplay mechanics and other things. The next is going to be up in probably the next hour or so of the day.

Again, I'm still looking for people who'd playthrough the game from start to finish before I release, it'd be very helpful.

I hate delays :(

Well the game's November Completion date is going to be delayed, I've been a lot busier than I thought I'd be. I have completed creation of the Final Dungeon, but I'm currently working on a new zone, and then working on all of the bosses and other enemies. Don't think this is a long delay however, I am sure this will be done early December. At that point I'll send the game to everyone who'd like to Pre-Test the game.

Wow, I guess I've done it again huh? Abandoned a Project?

And it seemed this was the best thing I could have ever made, I put my heart into every map, skill and weapon I made for it, spent months balancing and testing the game and even completed the game.
But thanks to me being the dumbest person in the world, I happened to have extracted a script's project file over Witchtooth's, meaning that unless there's a way to fully recreate a game using the Data Folder alone, then this game is now shut down. I don't know if I'll ever touch RPG Maker any time soon, or if I'll be on here any time soon.

Sorry to anyone who wanted to play the finished project, and thank you to everyone that stood by such a fool for so long... I think I'll be taking my vacation now.

See you... Space Cowboy.

Err... try making a new blank project and replacing the new project's Data folder with Witchtooth's.

Yes, the game is stuck in this state @skaraflame (and I'm back from my exaggerated vacation in which i actually just searched for a way to fix the darn thing).

I did the blank project thing the moment I realized that it happened. It actually did nothing. But that was to be expected, since the game's folder already has the Data and the project still remains tainted.

I'm still waiting for a reply from Mein Captein, hopefully she can work some sort of magic.

Post by: hiromu656 on January 28, 2012, 08:42:02 PM
The game is now complete. I will be releasing it Tonight. I want to add more equipment in various places now that I've gotten the core game done, along with some small map nooks here and there to add a bit more exploration. Testing is all finished, I've played through it 4 times now without anything that jumps out to me as a bug. I will probably be patching the game for grammatical errors if I notice intense ones that I've neglected, but other than that, the game will go Live later Tonight.

With all this newfound time on my hands, I wonder what there is to do next.

Dude! This is really entertaining! I like he tilesets you have used for the interiors. Where did you get the music from? I like that too; it reminds me of the SNES sound palatte.

The maps... were nice, I could see how you went about constructing them for your purposes in the combat areas, but in the civillian areas I was a litle confused as to where your mapping was going- I guess I'm used to more open maps. Still, all that being said, not bad.

I was drawn in from the beginning, probably because of the well constructed dialogue and inviting themes. I also was very appreciative of the auto-saves at critical points!

It's good. I like to play it, and that's about the best any of us can expect to hear from our games. Well done, dude!

Thanks a lot man.

I know what you mean about the city areas, I really dislike making those kinds of places, it just kinda feels repetitive to make multiple cities, like I'm going down a checklist of everything I need to place inside. But I'll get the hang of making better cities eventually, for now I'm just glad someone's enjoying the game.
Title: Re: Witchtooth {VX} [Full Game]
Post by: EvilM00s on February 07, 2012, 03:27:02 PM
I am indeed!

You know, sometimes a good idea starts with rote, going down a list of things you need to do. It's not so much a formula as it is technique. There was this painter on TV, Bob Ross, who would paint these lovely outdoor scenes in 1/2 an hour on PBS. He said that even though we always start with the sky, then the ground (so forth and so on) it was only to prepare the canvas for our creativity. There were no mistakes, just happy accidents.

Yes, towns DO get boring, they need to have certain elements in them unless something odd is going on, and it IS a challenge to dress those elements in different clothes every single time- but I think that if you make every town like a place you'd want to visit, you can't go wrong.

Now... to find out what's up with that girl's horn...

I love Lin... SO much... I might draw Rolan X Lin...
And about the town thing, Pokemon games are a prime example of how amazing towns can be in a game. Take Pokemon Black and White for example. Nuvema town is reassuring, Castelia City is exciting, Nimbasa City is a town I'd love to live in in real life, and that town near the Giant Chasm has GREAT music.

@skaraflame
 I'm glad you're liking her. Although I kinda feel like I didn't put enough character to character moments into the game, I hope that doesn't begin to affect your opinion. But anyway, it's my life goal to complete a Pokemon game... I honestly haven't played a single one for more than an hour. I should probably check out those cities when I eventually do.

@EvilM00s
That's a nice way of thinking about it. PBS must have some pretty snazzy shows then? Last time I watched that channel was while I watched Mr.Rogers (a long time ago)

I have 646 Pokemon in Black, and I've seen 648 :P
Black/White's story is SO amazing, seriously, after you get to Nacrene City you won't be able to put it down. It's not like other Pokemon games where you can't put it down until a certain point, I can just never put Black down, it dragged me in from the start.
Lacunosa was the place I was thinking of with great music.

But yeah, I'm tied up with other commitments so I haven't played much of Witchtooth (I'm up to Andale). I got up to the bit with all the other witches in the test version.

A pretty big update is coming pretty soon. I will be focusing on balancing the battle system a bit and adjusting a few other sliders here and there. I was also told about bugs around the game, so this update will be put out as soon as possible.

I'm sure all save files will be fine after the update.

The current game has been removed, once the update is complete I will put it back up.

Have you talked with the Scribe at the exit of the Desert Town? You still have to kill the Sand Leach, remember? Unless you've already done that, then you need to return to Rolan's house since Talis said that you all should meet there to discuss something.

I'll probably be releasing a GameFAQs-type Walkthrough for the game, filled with every Weapon, Armor, Item and what not along with a pretty in depth guide to getting through the game and how to find each secret boss/item.

If you have any more problems/questions be sure to post, or just PM, whatever floats your boat.

For what I have I just beat witchtooth, great game, though could you have found a harder way to hide that tower, I roamed the entire setting like 6 times untill I noticed some paths I hadent tried. And if you do decide to make a sequil let me know i'd love to help, though if you'd rather work it alone i'd understand, it would just mean I have another thing sidetracking me from making my game, and I'm probably no help without a computer with internet right now, but anyway great game!
And if you don't mind could I go through with an altered save file and look at some of the things you put in some of the unreachable places?
Title: Re: Witchtooth {VX} [Full Game] (V1.1)
Post by: hiromu656 on March 27, 2012, 06:33:05 PM
Thanks for playing through to the end. And about the path to the Tower, yeah that was pretty dumb of me to make it so hidden, but I'm glad you found it :P.

By unreachable places, do you mean chests that you can't open? Because I think that would be a bad idea, those chests cause game overs...

Obviously, this game is already complete. Even more issues have become apparent when looking back at the game along with player feedback, even after the most recent patch.

Sadly, I'm going to stop updating Witchtooth as it's sort of a burden for me, and I doubt anyone wants to re-download the game in a new state. Not only that, but it'll be difficult to reach out to those people who have downloaded, found issues but haven't relayed these problems to me. I want to be able to instantly get everyone on the best version of Witchtooth, and I'm sure many people who downloaded the game don't even have the most recently updated version. So, I'm done updating this game, I hope the problems with it aren't too severe that they become unplayable.

Not that I'm advertising my Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/Hiromu656) or anything, but I'll be making a playthrough series of Witchtooth there, I'll be sure to summarize exactly what happens, in the video, in its description if you want to skip the video. Of course, this is only for people who want to understand the game's story without playing it. But most importantly, if you don't want to play the game, at least you'll have a little bit of background if you ever wish to play this:

I can do a lets play of it myself (though I didn't initially plan to) if you would prefer to see how someone who didn't create the story interprets things.

That'd be really cool actually. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who finds problems in the game, that it is what it is and there isn't much support I can give to fix them. I already know there aren't any game breaking errors, but if anything difficult/unbalanced comes into play, that will be out of my hands.

So, If you'd like to LP the game, by all means go ahead. I'll still be making my walkthrough of the game because I will be doing everything possible in the game, secrets and all.

Youtube Playlist (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL382E57C1670E08BB&feature=view_all)

As it turns out, your dragon-pig like monster absolutely moped the floor with me;
So I'm gonna have to do some level grinding and I'm never really motivated to do that, so it might take awhile until I do another video.

I don't really say it much, but I love the game and I think it's bloody well made.
The only thing I can say that bothers me is the amount of poisoning and random battles I seem to get.
Which comes standard with every RPG actually, so nothing about your game specifically aggravates me, all positive :)
Title: Re: Witchtooth {VX} [Full Game] (V1.1)
Post by: hiromu656 on June 17, 2012, 06:24:36 PM
That's partially good to hear. The random battles and poisoning and what not is just part of my learning experience I guess. This is still my first game, so I've got a lot to learn for future projects. So I thank you very much for trying out the game, it gives me much more to take into account when I move onto more games.

Oh, and about Baromagmus, he is a secret boss. You don't even have to fight him to get out of the Mountains. So, grinding really isn't necessary at this time. If I can give any type of hint to beating this boss I'd say:
Spoiler for:
get fire resistant armor

T'is done.
I haven't gone and done your sidebosses and I'm sure there are some things that I missed. So when I get around to it, I'll check places more thoroughly and finish off Baromagmus & Vyandrel.

Spoiler for Bugs:
I didn't find any game-breaking bugs.
But I did notice that the Inn in Cobalt doesn't play the same sleep sound that all other Inns play.

Also there's a sleeping guy in Andale who literally changes appearance when you speak to him.

There is a message which says that Lin learned the 'Seal of Selvise', when in actual fact she learned something else.
I think I found some more, but can't remember them right now.

Spoiler for Battles:
The battles are really repetitive, I fought more wolves in this game then I have in any other game. Poison was also a reoccurring thing (which is why I bought poison resisting equipment).
So a little more monster variety would be nice :)

I also found that some areas would really amp up the difficulty far too much too quickly. Oden Grassland would have nicely leveled enemies, then the mountain would have me fighting one or two things before I had to start retreating.
That's a lot of extra difficulty that should be downgraded a little. :V

Spoiler for Story:
I understood the story very well. Though from what I understand, it isn't reflected in the NPCs too much.
I was given the impression that humans were afraid of the witches, or wished to put them down.
The NPCs usually ignore Lin or don't really comment about her unless we're in Talis's home town.
If she is hiding her horn from people, you should probably mention that in game. Since this confuses me a little.

The first born initially refers to Hearin as a witch, then Norton refers him to be a human. I'm not really sure what he is after hearing conflicting stories.
I'd assume he was a human who turned into a witch.
But I don't think that's the case since the first born referred to him as a witch BEFORE she made mention of his deeds.

I know absolutely nothing about the helmet-man. And that makes me quite curious to why he was travelling with Norton anyway.

I don't know what happened with Chester's house-guests problem, but I'll leave that up to your sequel to explain.

Spoiler for Music:
The music was absolutely wonderful. You used some music from games that I have played before. I'm glad you used them for appropriate maps; a good example is the 'Deepest Woods' theme from ToS, I know what that music is actually used for and this game has a similar use for it; which makes it sorta nostalgic.
I like the battle theme too ;8

Spoiler for Mapping:
I think your mapping is absolutely gorgeous; however don't take that very well since I'm not a good mapper and probably don't have a good opinion about it.
I just thought I'd mention it.

Spoiler for Suggestions:
I would like to see an item which halves the encounter rate for monsters and another item which doubles it.

Another item which can be used to scan enemies and determine their HP; some of your boss battles are incredibly long and I think this would benefit players to know how much HP an enemy has left.

A map which shows the world/continent. I know that I was unaware of where I was for most of the game, I was just following a path to get where I needed to go.
So I was absolutely lost when I needed to go to the Sorrow Marsh.

You don't have to feel obliged to do anything, but at least consider these for your sequel.

I also gotta ask. . .
Did you create those custom animations yourself?
And how about those custom battlers?

They all look fantastic ;8

Thanks a lot for the Feedback, this is probably the most helpful bit of information I've gotten for the game. Not to mention you did me a HUGE favor by making a playthrough on Youtube it really helped me realize that what I didn't find a problem, others probably did.
A lot of the story pieces are lacking, I'm very aware of that. This is entirely due to being inexperienced, rushing myself when I shouldn't and doing something really dumb, which is trying to create any story off the top of my head just to have a finished game on my belt. I really should have taken more time to make sure everything fits together and is well explained, everything confusing in this game will surely be fixed in the sequel.

I commented on your videos about the battle problems, so I don't think I need to repeat that.
Spoiler for:
Uhh... Chester eventually regains his house which is meant to be inferred, and Hearin is a Witch. I don't know why I would have made Norton say otherwise.
The deal with the Seal (haha) of Selvise is that I altered many of the spells names mid development and I must have forgotten to change the name of the skill she learns in that scene.

And finally, I did not create any of the battlers, I'm just an avid internet surfer. The custom animations on the other hand were (almost) all done by me. They were simple color variations on RTP images and then arranged in a way that wasn't default with the program.

Thanks for completing the game and again, for giving so much useful feedback. I might as well name all the secret bosses if you ever decide to fight them:
Spoiler for:
Lesser Hydra, Arkouda, Baromagmus, The Grand Champion, Vyandrel, Nightbane, The Heart of Death, The Faceless Wight and, The Saint
- tell me if you need help finding them xP

I have to say, this game is a huge inspiration to me. Although my current project, Scarlet Skies, isn't really like Witchtooth at all, I have picked up on a few things while playing it.

So am I. To be honest, without you or Sailerus, I probably wouldn't even be in RPG Maker.
