"The best of Harvest Moon coupled with better writing" - IndieGames.com (http://indiegames.com/2014/05/worlds_dawn.html)

Inspired by slow-paced games like those in the Harvest Moon series, World's Dawn allows players to experience life in a sleepy farming village off the beaten path. If the town of Sugar Blossom is to ever rediscover the spirited essence it once held, its newest resident must make it so... That's you!

After moving into an old farmhouse, you're free to explore and participate in a number of activities from day to day. These include growing crops, raising livestock, building relationships with townsfolk, fishing in rivers and ponds, shopping, cooking, foraging, trading goods, playing sports, attending markets and festivals, flirting and marrying, and many more. Even after playing through an entire game year (which will offer 30+ hours of content) you'll find there is still plenty to surprise and entertain you in the friendly farming village.

Currently, the complete SPRING and SUMMER seasons are available for download, with autumn and winter under development and planned for release within the next few months.

Thanks so much for your interest! Don't forget to leave a comment!

Great Zombie Jesus, I love Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing type games, and this ones looks really promising. Hope you can keep up the pace!

@cozziekuns : Thanks so much! This project's been a lot of work already, but I'm confident I can keep up the pace and get a demo out in the semi-near future  ^-^ I hope the game doesn't disappoint!

If anyone is interested, I've updated the original post with some new content. There are updated screenshots (with a new style of path) as well as a couple demo videos. Let me know what you think!

This looks fantastic! I can't wait to play it. :)

The only thing I find a bit off are the text pictures. They look a little....unsettling. Maybe that's just me though.

Wow! This looks amazing; you're clearly a very talented game designer and I wish you the best of luck in this project. Like cozzie, I too love games like this.

I'll be looking forward to seeing this project finished. Keep up the good work!

The only thing I will mention here is: I like the trees a lot, but the character sprites seem a little big compared next to them. That's not a big deal though.

True, and gosh, love the sprites! They make the game so cowl.Nicely done so far!

I am so excited for this project's release! I have made about 2 games with the same principal and concept of your game (mainly because I wanted to create an RPG Game that was fun and interactive without all of the typical advanced battling systems, cliche plots, unfulfilling endings, etc.) Of course, I am no where near as masterful on RPG Maker VX as you are because I mainly use RPG Maker XP. Your original graphics are inspiring and your town has a cozy atmosphere to it that I didn't know VX games could have, because they are usually so boxy and unrealistic. Keep up the good work!

While I won't refute the fact that your tiles are very nice, I'm not exactly fond of the style. Too simplistic for my tastes, imo. The autotiles in the outdoor maps also kind of betray the grid. Not a big deal, I know, but again, it's not a style I'm used to.

Everything else is top-notch, though. I can't guarantee that I'll play it since I myself am not a fan of games similar to Harvest Moon, but it looks great from a purely stylistic point of view.

Hey everyone, I'm really sorry for the late reply! I've been very busy these past few weeks... but that's a lame excuse  ;9
I truly appreciate your feedback, it's the best motivator there is. I'm happy (and a small bit nervous) that so many people are looking forward to the game and offering their full support. Thanks so much!

@Acolyte : Thank you a ton, I'm glad you're excited to play  What exactly looks unsettling about the text pictures? Or is it too hard to pinpoint? Criticism is very much welcome!

@modern algebra : I really appreciate your feedback especially, as 1) you're such a respected member of this community and 2) I use your fantastic scripts all the time  ;D Enough brown-nosing, though... Thanks so much for your comments and support, I'll definitely keep up the work on this project and see that it's released in the reasonably near future. You're not the first person to mention those trees, by the way... I'll see what I can do!

@DarkGamer : Thank you very much for the compliment. I hope you enjoy the game when it's released!

@beyondtheanonymous : It's great to hear you've made similar games because I think a lot of people like this kind of project (without the battles, leveling up, etc.) and would like to design them, but they're really an exhausting amount of work! Hah so I'm glad you can appreciate everything that's gone into the project so far... and I'm especially happy the cozy atmosphere that you mentioned comes across even with just the screenshots. Thanks a ton!

@Ryosis : Thanks a lot for your comments! It was really cool of you to offer constructive criticism but also accept that some of it comes down to stylistic preference. And though World's Dawn is very (very) similar to Harvest Moon in all kinds of ways, I hope you'll at least give it a shot upon release  ;)

@deadnub : Glad to hear you're looking forward to it. Thanks for your comments, I really hope he project lives up to all these expectations!

@Fizzly : Alright, another fan of Harvest Moon! I can all but guarantee you'll like this project too, as it's very much inspired by that series. I appreciate your comment on the logo, too... It's an important feature that (sadly) a lot of people don't put enough thought into.

@Kyogia : Play Harvest Moon! There, there's two recommendations  :) I hope you like this game as well!

This means that your project will be sticked and featured on RMRK's homepage for the duration of the season. Naturally, you may also mention the award when publicizing the project. Great work and again, congratulations; you deserved it!

Thank you so much! It's such a great honor to win the first Project of the Season award, I almost can't believe it considering all the great projects around here.

As far as progress goes, my semester just picked up recently and it's been tough finding as much time as I would want to work on World's Dawn. However, I promise that a playable demo is not far off at this point and I certainly hope it will be worth the wait.

Thanks again to everyone for your support, and thanks doubly to those who voted   ;)

Congratulations on winning Project of the Season! It was a deserving award for your persistent efforts in making this timeless, unique and highly original game. I am so excited for the demo of this game that I have bookmarked this page. Sometimes people receive publicity when they are not deserving of it at all - that is not the case for you. I am so exhilarated someone who is so talented and determined is being recognized for their hard work.

@beyondtheanonymous : I truly appreciate your kind words  ^-^ Almost too kind! I'm glad you're looking forward to the demo with such fervor and I very much hope it doesn't disappoint.

On the topic of the demo, it looks as though it's not far off! I know I've said something similar in the past, but I'm actually at the point now where I can see the finish line. Releasing a demo for a nonlinear game like this is tough, because it means I have to make a call whether or not to include each individual feature and how to best go about it...
In any case, you shouldn't have to wait much longer  8)

I'm stoked about this game, it's got a lot going for it and you seem to have committed quite a bit. The customizing is freaking amazing and it looks lke there's tons to do. Your maps are looking like they're missing something though, maybe just a little more detail. Sugar Blossam looks awesome, but once again are you incorporating any wildlife of some more NPCs maybe, it just seems very straight forward and could use some meshing of life. I'm curious what the town life is going to be like.

I revamped the original post with fancy new colors and new screenshots! Check them out and be sure to let me know what you think. And remember, a playable demo is just over the horizon... (it's a safe bet to expect it by December  ;))

@hawkeye : Thanks so much for your feedback, I'm happy you're so excited to play the game. I will definitely look into adding more detail to some of the maps, especially in terms of wildlife and that feeling of being "alive". However, there is a story-related reason I don't want to overdo it right away though...
Thanks again for your comments, I really appreciate it. And I hope to hear more after you get a chance to play the demo!

It's been a long time coming, but the World's Dawn demo has finally arrived! This is the main project I've been working on for close to a year, so I'm proud to say players can finally experience the game for themselves through this special teaser.

The "Guided Demo" includes original graphics and gameplay systems that will appear in the final product (scheduled for a 2011 release). I will personally guide you through the demo as Sagitar to ensure you get the most out of the contained features... I'll even let you know if you missed anything important upon completion! A single playthrough should take about one hour.

I purposely avoided including any unfinished features or systems in the demo. Houses with incomplete maps will be locked from the outside; characters missing facesets or dialogue are left out completely... So while it's clear this is not a finished product, the demo should show a fair amount of polish. I didn't want players to encounter any strange glitches or vacant locales in Sugar Blossom Village.

Click the image below to download the demo! (If you need to find this link in the future, it's located on World's Dawn site (http://"http://waywardprophet.com/wd") as well as a number of project threads around the RM community). Once you play, do me a favor and leave your comments. Feedback is always welcome, and player input is vital in helping the game grow.

A hearty thanks goes out to everyone who has offered their resources, wisdom, and support throughout this year-long process.

Enjoy the demo!

Arrow likes this idea. Arrow likes the art and the general concept.

Arrow will not be downloading this now, at 3:00 in the morning, as it is his mellow time and the download might take precedence over the music he is streaming on his crappy connection, but Arrow will certainly be bookmarking this onto his toolbar and downloading soon.

Yay!

Demo's pretty neat, but I think I found a glitch. When you hold down the dash button, even if you don't move, you still lose stamina :(

Post by: Acolyte on November 28, 2010, 04:16:20 AM
Finished the demo. Love it! The graphics are very colorful and unique, and the music was lovely. I found lockball to be rather entertaining, but I'm confused about the whole "lock" aspect of it. I held down the spacebar, but it only worked for me a few times. I could be doing it wrong, though. I only skimmed the directions.
Title: Re: World's Dawn [VX] - Demo Released!
Post by: Sagitar on November 29, 2010, 12:25:54 AM
Thanks for the feedback  :)

@cozziekuns : Glad you like it, and good catch with the glitch, I didn't even think about that. It will surely be fixed in the final version!

@Acolyte : Thanks for the comments, I'm happy you like the graphics and soundtrack (I think you're the only one to mention the music!). As for your LockBall question... your "Junction" skill level determines the percentage chance you'll successfully lock up your goal when holding the action button. When you're just starting out, locking your goal will only work about half the time.

It was great but I'm ashamed that I got infuriated with seeing "This ...... is not included in the demo". I kind of stopped playing...

However, what I saw was excellent!

Glad you liked what you saw! Sorry about the "not featured" parts, it's really only the buildings that you can't explore. There are three places you can enter (Benjamin's Craftshop, Midnight Tavern, General Shop) but the rest of the interiors are incomplete so I chose to leave them out.

Thanks for the comment!

What really impressed me was that all the townsfolk will follow their own personal schedules everyday, whether they will be different every day (Different for every day of the week) or the same every single day, especially if they're lots of people in the village.

Good luck with completing it.

Thank you so much for the feedback

@Milespleasant : That's been one of the hardest things so far, getting all the villagers to move around to their own schedules without bugs. I think I've figured out a pretty good way to do it now, so hopefully that will be an interesting feature for players to experience in the final version. Thanks for your comment!

@erlyn : I appreciate your support! Let me know what you think of the demo, player input is extremely helpful!

Hey everyone! I'm back with a ton of new updates just to reassure you that yes, I am still working hard on World's Dawn

First off, I created a brand new gameplay trailer to show off a bunch of previously unseen event systems and graphics. Check it out here or in the main post if you prefer:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IH2G2BJu3Y" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IH2G2BJu3Y</a>

Since that trailer, however, there have been even more graphical updates (mostly overhauling the HUD but there have been other tweaks as well) and so I added a ton new screenshots to the original post as well. Make sure to go look at them all and let me know what you think! I appreciate your feedback.

If you want to receive more regular updates on World's Dawn and my other game projects, follow the studio Facebook page! Once the full game is released, there will be in-game rewards and bonuses for Facebook followers, so there's plenty of incentive to hit the "Like" button.

(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.martin3punkt0.de%2Fimperia%2Fmd%2Fimages%2Fbezirkweserems%2Faaapersonen%2Fmdbmartinschwanholz2%2Ffotosab2009%2Fjungesteam%2Ffacebook_banner.jpg&hash=1e4083d2cd9bf7e1647ed4c4d3f30e30867bc21c) (http://facebook.com/waywardprophet)

I'm still shooting for a (late) 2011 release! Until then, keep checking back for more updates!

Thanks for all the support!

Here it is, a long awaited (and well-deserved) update!

First things first: I just launched a new website for World's Dawn to coincide with a whole big studio reinvention. You can check it out at:
www.worldsdawn.com (http://worldsdawn.com)

(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi44.tinypic.com%2F2rgh0ns.png&hash=36bf928a0e5bad05e6fae4001f6abb8cf4b7264a) (http://worldsdawn.com)

The site has some of the same information you've already seen, but there's also a detailed beginner's guide that will introduce you to many of the characters, places, and gameplay features planned for the game. Check it out and let me know what you think! Feedback is always great for things like this. And if you're interested, check out the new waywardprophet.com (http://waywardprophet.com) for related projects and info.

If you haven't already seen them, there are new images posted, showcasing what the final graphical style for World's Dawn will look like. You can expect more info soon (I promise this time), but the 4-5 hour Spring Season is very close to completion. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that by the end of April, you'll be playing the game in some capacity.

The final update is a brand new spin-off project based on the sport of LockBall. It will be a fun, fast-paced game to spend a few minutes at a time on, and should be released in the next couple of days. If you play enough and level up your statistics, you'll even be able to carry your progress over into World's Dawn!

More updates will follow in the near future. Until then, check out all the new stuff at the site and get ready for the release of LockBall!

I honestly can't believe how long it's been since I last posted here, not to mention that this topic was first published almost 4 years ago  :o I'm so sorry to everyone who was looking forward to World's Dawn and truly appreciate the support of everyone on this forum over the years.

That said, the Spring Season is finally (almost) ready to play! It's the hands of a select few testers at the moment for a final round of QA but my plan is to release the season on Saturday, April 12. I hope there are still some people around who are excited to play it! It's hard to estimate playtime for such a nonlinear games but most of my testers have been finishing the season around 8 or so hours.

Here's a few screenshots to prove I've been working on this project (sporadically, of course) pretty much this whole time! Almost everything about it has been overhauled and improved.

Again, thanks so much to everyone for all your support! I want to sincerely apologize for the lack of updates and false promises regarding a release date -- this time it's for real! I hope you all give the Spring Season a shot later this week  :)

I'm so surprised and pleased that you've continued work on this. I e-mailed you about some of the music used in this project several years ago, but I never received a response; has that issue been resolved? Might shoot you a PM just in case.

Definitely looking forward to the release of the Spring season!

I have seen this before - never commented though - which is strange, considering I love the art and overall graphics.

Thanks everyone! I cant wait to hear everyone's thoughts after the release of the spring season :)

Okay, quick update as I'm getting ready to release the spring season... the game has a shiny new website! I know it's gone through a couple redesigns but I'm really happy with how it looks now  :)

http://worldsdawn.com (http://worldsdawn.com)
Feel free to visit and check out a bunch of brand new information on the every character in the game. There's also a built-in commenting system on the site so if it's easier for you to leave feedback there you can do that now.

Let me know what you think!

Ah, I'm liking the updated site now!

Curious -- will mining be available from Spring on?

The website is very colourful and spiffy. Quite the professional look!

Looking forward to trying this. Never did try Harvest Moon... so it'll be a new experience.

The day is here! The complete spring season of World's Dawn is ready to play!

Download (http://rpgmaker.net/games/1855/downloads/)
(74.2 MB)

It's still not the finished game, but will certainly give you more than a basic idea of what to expect. Not much will change about the game mechanically besides further content being added for summer, fall, and winter.

Please try out the season and let me know what you think! Your feedback as a player is what keeps me going, and what makes the hundreds (probably thousands, honestly) of hours developing entirely worth it. I really tried to make something outside the box when it comes to RPG Maker projects and I hope those efforts are appreciated.

Thank you to everyone for your support and your passion! Let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions regarding the spring season. Otherwise... enjoy your new life in Sugar Blossom Village!

Just in case anyone is interested, I posted a fancy mouseover comparison over at my blog (http://waywardpenwork.blogspot.com) to show off just how different World's Dawn looks now compared to the demo that was released way back in 2010. I was just looking at the graphics from that demo (not to mention how little gameplay was included) and laughing about how far the project has come.

Here's another quick comparison of my title screens!

Pretty cool! I've also fixed a few bugs in the most recent download, so if you haven't given the spring season a shot, what the heck are you waiting for?  ;D I would really appreciate some feedback. Thank you, as always!

Hullo there!

I have downloaded World's Dawn, and have been able to squeeze in some time walking around. I can't concretely say much about the whole farming/dating stuff, but I can give you some early thoughts. Thus! Some musings:

- I love the overall charm. If people are looking for zen in games, this one certainly offers serenity and relaxation. I mean, without farmers, the heroes in other games couldn't get their milk 'n apples now could they? The art is wonderful and feels fresh, especially compared to the standard rtp files out there.

- I found getting tired in-game is both good and bad: bad, for I want to keep speeding everywhere. Good, because when you are far away from home, just run around and you'll automatically go back to your house.

- The laughing of people is cute :)

- I found it a little tedious having to introduce myself to everyone as a first mission. I haven't found them all yet, and I forgot which ones I already talked to. So I'm still busy with that one...

- Hey, crabs dive into the sand when you get near. Nice touch!

- Hot springs are cool. Or, hot, really. Nakedness!

That's it for now. I hope to play again some more soon.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you like the charm of the game, it's definitely important to get that sense across. The gameplay isn't exciting in the way that battles, etc. are, but it's meant to lull you into a slow-paced routine and be a little more relaxing than the average RPG.

I appreciate your comments on the little touches (like the crabs digging into the sand and the little bits voice acting) because I spend a lot of time on those! Glad you enjoyed them.

I hope to hear more of your thoughts as you play more of the game! Thanks again  :)

Hey everyone  ;D

If you've had a chance to play World's Dawn (even if you haven't finished it yet) I would really appreciate your feedback! I set up a quick 10-question survey here:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YQS8F6C (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YQS8F6C)

This will definitely help with the development of future seasons. The more responses I get, the better the rest of the game will be! Thanks for your support either way, hopefully everyone is enjoying the spring.

Hey everyone!
It's been a long time since I posted here (and I'm not sure there are any fans of World's Dawn still around these parts  :-\) but I'm happy to announce the summer season was just released! With 15+ hours of gameplay in a compact 83 MB download, this chapter essentially doubles the amount of content available.

Download the summer season! (http://rpgmaker.net/games/1855/)

Anyone who played through spring is able to transfer their progress over to the new season by copying all of the Entry files from inside the old Diary folder over to the new one. Let me know if you run into any issues!

I'm still looking for feedback, as I'm getting pretty deep into development for the upcoming autumn and winter seasons. Once the full game is released, you'll be able to loop back around to spring and continue your story for a theoretically infinite playtime.

I hope to hear some thoughts from the wonderful members of this community! Thanks for your support and I hope you enjoy the summer season  :D
