It looks great!

If you want, I can get demos to some games you review.

Just a suggestion.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 04, 2008, 01:59:16 PM
Hey man thanks!
As for the demos, I wouldn't want to put you through that work. Also as they can become a bandwidth issue. What I plan on doing is having an external links location on the review page of each game where you can link to sites that have the cheat codes for the game, or other things like that.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Tezuka on February 04, 2008, 07:41:38 PM
I don't mind doing all that work, plus you wouldn't need to worry about the bandwidth issue. ;)

But yeah, your decision, no problem.

:O

oh...after I get the site finished up I will need to talk to you a little more about this idea if you don't mind.  :)

well, if you are referring to the site creation that I am sad to say that I probably don't need much help if any at all in that.

OR

If you mean after the site launch as in writing reviews or anything of that manner then totally! the staff will be open to anyone and everyone to try out as a review writer. Of course we don't want any one review gigs.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Krebel on February 04, 2008, 11:40:29 PM
Seeing I play or have played every NES, SNES, SEGA, NEO GEO, and other console games that are all that is retro, would you care for a retro reviewer? I don't have the money and resources to keep up with next gen games at the moment. Although I am trying my best to update lol. Also, I love gadgets so if you wanted a gadget reviewer I could provide that.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 04, 2008, 11:44:58 PM
I actually thought it would be hardest to find a retro game reviewer :)

If you can successfully make a post following the posting tutorial you will be welcome onto the retro console review team!

but of course that try out stuff will be for later.  :)

also I don't know about gadget, I really want to keep it simple and for video games only.

Also I want to know what everything thinks about this:

Should there be game previews? So far all we were talking about it game reviews. I think previews could actually be beneficial because once the game is actually released we could link to the review from the preview.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Krebel on February 04, 2008, 11:50:11 PM
Alright I am game. Are there anything in specific you will be looking for in a review? Are there (will there) be any sort of criteria to what the reviews will have to encompass? Will there be length limitations? Also, will there be a scoring system?
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 04, 2008, 11:53:18 PM
the answer to pretty much everything you just said, yes.

I want it structured just because I don't want everyone having their own review style. I'm sure anyone can adapt to the structure, its VERY simple, but keeps some structure to the site.

Alright, I will keep up to date then, Let me know if there is anything new about what I should do if you could thank you.

Game previews should be good... Like reviews based on what you've seen? That could reel in some people that are waiting for a game to come out. *ahem*useIrockforsupersmashbrosbrawl*cough*

not sure what you mean, like format?
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Krebel on February 08, 2008, 11:35:57 PM
Yea all that, Like a scoring system, and maybe what points to critique a game on, that should be standard in a review, or just a general layout for a review, I would like to help get that going, if you want.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 08, 2008, 11:58:57 PM
well, I'd love to hear your input on it. I was planning something but cant fine the paper I wrote it on. I know fosure we have a "buy or rent" thing which will to after the general stuff like overall score, graphics, gameplay, ECT

Do you mean something like Digg?
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Tezuka on February 09, 2008, 04:29:14 PM
I think he meant a scoring system like what Gamespot (http://gamespot.com) does. Mini awards could be placed in the review as well like "A lot for your money" or "Cute, but yet can appeal to adults". Bad awards can be given as well like "Recycled" for games sequals that just repeat what the first one did. Just a suggestion as always.

awesome suggestion! I'll see how I can implement it.

new alert messages added! In case anything comes up I can easily post about it :)
also (read more) is now highlighted to stand out, but not STAND OUT that much.

Please tell me what you think :)

Awesome!

Just as a(nother) suggestion, what would the alerts look like between "LATEST" and "RECENT COMMENTS"?
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 09, 2008, 09:08:06 PM
hmm. I sorta like them on the very top of things just because it can be seen w/o going down. Check it now I added them in the sidebar.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Tezuka on February 09, 2008, 09:10:18 PM
Is there anyway to choose where the notififcations will be placed, for a member?

Also, the alerts at the top looked great, but I just wanted to see. Still looks awesome though!
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 09, 2008, 09:12:46 PM
actually I like how it looks in the sidebar as well :)
so maybe for not that important news items I can put it there.

also what do you mean for members? I can do something where registered forum members won't see it on top, and only guests will. Is that what you mean?
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Tezuka on February 09, 2008, 09:29:12 PM
I mean so that members can choose if they want it at the top or in the sidebar.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Krebel on February 09, 2008, 09:34:35 PM
Yea I meant like Tezuka said. Everything still going ok?
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 09, 2008, 10:16:13 PM
nah, I don't think it will be possible for members to move it. But it will only appear on the homepage, and there will be only one at a time, and most of the time there will be none.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Tezuka on February 09, 2008, 10:25:13 PM
Oh, just on the homepage? Sorry, I got the wrong idea, if it only shows on the homepage, it looks great the way it is! ;D
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 09, 2008, 10:26:45 PM
xD

yea, the forums and homepage will be two different things, and even on the homepage it will only stay on the very first page.

The review template looks amazing. The only thing the reviews would need are screenshots in the review, but they can be added easily. Great work Nouman!

In light of the new template would you like me to start on making a test review for you to evaluate, if I would be reviewer material?
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 10, 2008, 01:09:58 AM
K.Rebel and Tezuka, would you mind testing it for me? I mean you can use fake text and whatever but I would like to see someone post something and tell me if its too hard or if its easy. If you say yes, I will develop a quick tutorial on how to do it!
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Krebel on February 10, 2008, 01:10:42 AM
I have the time, I can do it. Just tell me what you want me to do exactly and I will.

I do have a question, would it be relative to the scoring system, if I were to score the retro games, (NES, SNES, SEGA), and so on, relative to the other games on there respective consoles? Say if I were comparing Mario Bros. 3 to the rest of the games on the console, I would give it a higher graphics score then most, but if I were comparing it to games on all consoles I would have to give it a small score. What would you like me to do.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 11, 2008, 08:21:26 PM
actually, thanks for the reminder. The scoring system has changed. :o

no longer numbers, but it will be text based. "graphics: bad, good ect.."
The words for this have not been selected yet.

Why?
Malson brought up a good point about how using #'s, makes us just another game review site.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Krebel on February 11, 2008, 10:27:29 PM
Alright, but what about my other question  ;9. Would you like me to compare NES games to other NES games for the rating, or to all other game systems? and so on for retro games.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 11, 2008, 10:46:43 PM
If you want to mention other games in there then feel free to :)

like say if I was talking about Halo 3, I could say its not as good as __________ (another xbox 360 shooter)

Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Krebel on February 11, 2008, 10:53:28 PM
Close to answering lol, I guess what I mean is, If I were to say compare Mario 3 to like any other NES game, I would say it has better graphics then most other NES games, so I would say the graphics are "Good" But If I were to compare  Mario 3 to games of this generation, I would have to classify the graphics as "Bad" Do you see what I mean. Which would you rather me do, compare the retro games, to other retro games, or compare them to, all games in general.

then I'd rather not. I mean include it in your review by all means, but when you go to the end it will be a simple "graphics: bad"

I'm in since you asked.  :bean:

Glad to have you on.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: Krebel on February 12, 2008, 12:35:02 AM
Ok, so NES game = graphics bad then right? no matter what right.
Title: Re: GameBean Site Preview!
Post by: :) on February 12, 2008, 12:36:56 AM
xD

its all compared to its abilities.

In your review, mention graphics.

:Graphics are better than any other NES game I have ever played"

so in the end it should be: "Graphics: Awesome!"

NES =|= Xbox 360.

I can do SNES games easily, with video review option if you want.

Oh and sorry for not testing it out, had a lot on my plate lately, it will all shift though in a couple of days so I will be able to help then.

I'd love it if you could review SNES games :) but I don't understand the second half of it:
"with video review option if you want."
