What was the story about those supposed new episodes of Futurama we were all hearing about a year ago? Didn't it end up being, like, a DVD box set, or something completely disappointing like that?

I heard nothing about new episodes or a new boxed set. In the DVD commentaries they do joke that there will be a Futurama reunion special where Frye gets married to Lelah, the Kiff kids all grow up, Zoidburg becomes the king of his people and conquers earth. Those were just jokes I'm sure, but they had them well thought out.
With the Family Guy, back before their big return to Fox, Seth McFarlan took it upon himself to fund the Stewey Griffen untold story. Those 3 episodes essentially brought the series back to Fox (all the write ins did nothing), then the DVD was released.

in answer to your question there WILL be an extra futurama season although episodes have been untold...
it will NOT be fox anymore it will be on comedy centeral

In the "What If" episode, Fry is forced to fight aliens in a world similar to a video game. What song does he play while shooting at the aliens? When the song begins, who are you viewing on the screen?

I think Comedy Central is picking up the fifth season.
And the movie sometime like next year or 09 I think...
And aren't you supposed to 13 to join?

Just to let people know. I heard an interview with Matt Groening during all of the Simpson's movie hype. He awas asked about Futurama and the movies. He said there was originally going to be 1 movie. Fox wanted 1 movie for DVD, but Matt said there's so much why not make it 2 DVDs, then Fox said why stop there? Let's make it 3 DVDs or 4 DVDs...
So 3 or 4 movie DVDs were made. It is similar to how the return of Family Guy came about. They made the Live of Stewie Griffen, and Fox picked up the show again. Well Fox tried to pick up the series again, then two other stations including Comedy Central wanted to pick it up too.
Comedy Central won! So now the 3 or 4 DVDs are split up into 13 episodes. Because there are 90 minute stories, they are edited, padded, and spliced together to make the episodes only 30 minutes. This is what is taking so long said Groening.
The Futurama episodes will air on Comedy Central in 2008. That is just what he said in a little interview. I'm sure the Internet will have something more in depth on it.
