Roph's cheap PC build
« on: February 07, 2009, 10:17:44 AM »

  • This is my theoretical build  =o

    Motherboard: ASUS P5QL SE - budget, but probably the best budget one out there. Could still achieve a nice overclock or upgrade and keep this in the future.

    CPU: Intel Pentium e5200 - the best bang for buck, and overclocks like a dream. For whatever reason, this is currently cheaper than the much weaker e2xxx series, even though it is more powerful.

    Graphics Card: Radeon 4670 - Beats the old 3850 while still built on 55nm and doesn't need an external power connector, great =o

    Hard Drive: WD 500GB - Chose this because it's on special offer.

    Power Supply: Coolermaster 460W - The biggest rookie mistake in building PCs is getting the cheapest possible power supply - you do not do it. Every single component relies on being fed clean stable power.

    Memory: Kingston 2GB stick - Will be slower running in single channel with 1 stick opposed to dual channel on 2, but again, I'm a begger at this point ;9

    (THE GRILLE THINGS THAT COVER THE CD DRIVE SLOTS ARE A DAMN BITCH TO REMOVE)

    (Yes, the box for the video card is bigger than the box for the motherboard. They could fit like 5 cards in it if they wanted)

    This fancy memory was as cheap as the crap cheap memory at the time I got it, offer ;3

  • lol, decent onboard video
    lol, nvidia chipset

    Also wow, the 4670 while about as powerful as a 3850 still only has the framebuffer bandwidth of my old 6800 ultra, which is 32gb/s. Yet I can fraps a busy 3d scene at 720p =o <3 ;-;

  • Since ATI are gay about custom resolutions (I like to run 1440x1080, in between 1280x960 / 1600x1200, I've decided to make the jump to 16x12 =o

    Also, Asus chick is the hottest:
